The CDAPS: LOT16, Episode 8b

Greetings, Citizens!

Sorry about the delay in getting this to you. I (Jeff) have noticed that I've been doing an increasingly crappy job putting stuff out as the summer has dragged on (and on, and on and on…).

Nevertheless, here is the second half of LOT16, session 8. "Fixed Dirty Fighting."

The CDAPS: LOT16, Episode 5b

Again, sorry for the delay in this week's release. I've been getting increasingly sick, and getting better has been consuming most of my time.

Regardless, we hope you enjoy this installment of LOT16, titled "United … Against the Llama." You can probably piece together what's about to go down...

Episode 35 - Reiterating, Chauvinism is NOT Cool

Greetings, Citizens!

Now, you may have read the title and read  a little snark into it. I'd be lying if I (Jeff) said I didn't intend any, especially with the chosen intro and outro music this episode. That being said, it isn't our intention to downplay or justify the overt (and sometimes not so overt) chauvinism and objectification of women within nerd culture. A Chainmail Bikini is NOT equal to an actual suit of armor!!  Recently, with such projects as The Hawkeye Initiative, this issue has gained a wider audience, but there's still a lot of ground to make up.

The Coalition States have long been held up as the standard for bigotry and inequality. But this podcast is going to make that leap and take a stand against the objectification of women, especially in "nerd culture," where it seems to be so pervasive. Another article you can take a look at is this one on the Artifice. Don't be intimidated by how long it seems--most of the page is made up of comments.

Please comment on this post. I know we didn't ask for any responses on this topic within the recording, but this is an issue that affects each and every one of us in the hobby. Whether you love or hate the scantily-clad images of post-apocalyptic females, your opinion on this matter is one that really can make a difference in the way people see our subculture.

The CDAPS: LOT16, Episode 3a

Greetings, Citizens.

It brings us great pleasure on this fine holiday to bring you the next installment of LOT16.

As always, you'll get a little bit of a refresher on what happened last time, and then you're off to the proverbial races with more mutated martial artist animals than you can (or should) shake a stick at.

Enjoy! And happy holidays!

The CDAPS: LOT 16, Episode 2

Greetings, citizens and my most sincere apologies.

I know I've not been very good to get these episodes out on time--I try to have everything posted early each Friday morning, but that rarely seems to happen nowadays. No, it isn't intended to be a satire of Palladium Books and the delays that seem to plague a lot of its projects. It's just that . . . well, I (Jeff) kinda forget about stuff until very late Thursday night. That being said, I'm going to try doing better in the future (knocking on wood).

That being said, we hope you enjoy the second part of LOT 16, the first campaign brought to you by the Coalition Deadboys Actual Play Series.

We live for feedback, so if you feel so inclined, please give us a rating on iTunes, leave comments here or get involved in the community on g+. We're also on Facebook, Obsidian Portal and RPG.net. You can also send us an email directly at coalitiondeadboys@gmail.com.

Until next time, keep clear of the mutagenic goo and keep your heads down.

The CDAPS: LOT 16, Episode 1

Greetings, Citizens.

We've promised. We've delayed. We've promised some more. We've insinuated its imminent arrival. We've delayed more. But the time has finally come. The Coalition Deadboys Podcast is proud to present the inaugural episode of of the Coalition Deadboys Actual Play Series.

To start the festivities off on the right foot, we're pleased to bring you the first episode of LOT 16; some of you may recall this as the game Matt was running when we first began this podcast. Come enjoy the madness his games include, and the story that sweeps you away.

As mentioned, this will be the first in a series of Actual Play podcasts. Right now, the plan is to release them on weeks we don't have a regular regular episode scheduled. Also, you'll notice that there isn't much "table chatter" compared to what you experience in real life. There's a good reason for that. The amazing guys over at the Mad Adventurers' Society--more specifically, the guys at Potelbat provide what they call "the good bits version" of their tabletop adventures on Potelbat YALP (Yet Another Live Play). If you enjoy the kind of discussions we have on our show, you should absolutely go check out Potelbat. I've been listening to them for quite a while, and they hit many interesting topics.

Anyway, there you have it! The very first installment in what will (hopefully) become a long-running tradition in the Coalition States Propaganda Department of Public Information.

Episode 22 - The Players of Atrophy

Greetings!

Today, we're back to our standard--just Jeff and Matt on this one, but we actually did a good job of it!

There were a lot of S.D.C. items this week, but the weekly update came out after we recorded, so we weren't able to analyze that. We also address listener mail before launching into the topic of conversation for the week.

The topic this week is simple, but it's one that not a lot of GMs want to discuss: players who aren't causing enough disruption to get themselves kicked out of the game, but enough of a ruckus to slow and stop the game in progress. Matt cites three specific archetypes he's seen, and we discuss the pros and cons of having each kind of player in your game, as well as some actual-play stories we remember from back in the day.

Anyway, that's it for this week. I hope the delay of a couple hours wasn't too onerous for you, fair listener.

Format and Schedule Moving Forward

Hello, Citizens!

Matt and I have discussed the issue, and our schedules haven't been all that kind to us this week. Therefore, we will not be recording this week (which has already passed anyway), or next week (November 28). Ideally, we'll be able to sit down and record again on December 5 and I'll be able to release the episode a week later so you can have more current news and analysis than you've been getting. I have to apologize for that. I was not getting you the episode quickly enough that we could give you the most up-to-date information Palladium had available. But I'm planning on changing that from now on.

In other news, I have a question. I know everyone who responded to the poll on Google+ thought a Google Hangout or some other sort of get together would be a good idea, so I thought I would ask another question. Do you like the update frequency as it stands, or would you like to see more (or less) content? We can write two or three quick updates each week, one each week including weeks we release an episode, or just on the weeks we don't release an episode. Or we can just keep the status quo. If you have a preference, please leave a comment below and let us know. Otherwise, I'm just going to do it whenever I want, and that might get a little annoying for people out there.

Again, leave a comment and let us know how we're doing, and let us know how often you'd like us to pop up in your RSS feeds.

Coalition Deadboys Special Episode! Book Review

Greetings, Citizens.

The Coalition Propoganda Department Coalition States Department of Awesomeness would like to remind you that the book, Chicks Dig Gaming has been out for a little less than a week. Since its release, it's hit Amazon's #1 spot for the Gender Studies genre, which is a great accomplishment. Not just for Mad Norwegian, but for the gaming community at large.

If you haven't already, check it out. Amazon has it at a discount, but as an author, I always recommend trying to buy directly from the publisher, if possible. But hey, that's my opinion.

I have to perform a mea culpa of sorts, though. I mentioned in the recording that I didn't think there were hard copies or that you could only get them through print-on-demand, I think I was wrong. It seems the Amazon Marketplace has paperback copies available, so you can probably also get those from the publisher.

Whether you look at my Amazon review or listen to this episode, just know that although I gave it four stars, it is a great book. Some people get it into their heads that only a five-star rating is satisfactory, or that they will only read books that get five stars. Don't be one of those people. Be one of the people that contribute to the discussion by actually reading the book and leaving a review of your own.

Anyway, that's the end of my rant.

Episode 8 - The Order of the Pants

Hello, citizens!

First of all, let me again apologize profusely for the delays in getting this episode to you. There was a little bit of trouble with a Xiticix hive near our location, but we've naturally got the situation well in hand.

Today's episode features a very special guest: Maddie, from Matt's current campaign. And man, can she kickbox!

We also delve into two different topics for this episode, although we got the normal order confused. First, we get to the Job Fair, where we discuss the Necromancer O.C.C. Apparently, they're not all evil...

And since we have someone of the female persuasion on the podcast, Matt and I were also naturally eager to learn a little more about how to best make gaming accessible to women--and more than that, how to make it enjoyable enough that they will want to continue doing it and make it less and less a "guy thing."

Until next time, keep your dice rolling.

Episode 7 - Social Contracts Players Sign

Hello, and and happy Halloween to you, human-enough subjects!

Real life seemed to try conspiring against us this time, but we showed it who was boss.

Anyway, I know I've said this before in a post, but I think this is one of our best episodes yet. Up to this point, we've been talking a lot about what a GM needs to do to engage players and things like that, but today, Matt had a great idea. What does a player need to do to fulfill their part of the social gaming contract? What is the social contract when it comes to gaming, and how does it even break? What are the effects if someone breaks it?

And somehow, we came back to talking about rules lawyers. What is it with those guys?

Anyway, we're glad to be back on track with our schedule. Sorry the Episode 6 came out so early—that was a mistake on my part, but one I'm not planning to repeat. Also, because real life played such havoc with the editing schedule, I wasn't able to include the additional feature in this episode. BUT, in lieu of that, we have a fun little section where we learn that Matt's dice really are cursed.

Episode 6 - Return of the Walrus Girl

Hello again, humans and humanoid-enough subjects!

You've heard about her for a long time. If you listened to the previous episode, you've been expecting this. Now is the time. Ellen, the Walrus Girl herself, is here.

Ellen was great to bear with Matt and I as we bungled through our first guest interview, and was really good-natured about it. She not only was able to provide us with some really great insight into how a woman gets into gaming, but also gives advice about how to make gaming more accessible once the wall is down, as well as how to help make it a good experience.

Many, many thanks go out to Ellen for her time and voice (and I'm sure, the headache that followed) for being our guest on this episode. She will be the first of many, so stay tuned.

Also, a shout-out goes to Mad Norwegian Press and their upcoming book, Chicks Dig Gaming, due for release on November 11. As time goes on, we can put a more comprehensive review of it up.

Question for readers and listeners: Do you want to keep this blog solely dedicated to episode releases, or would you like to see other things as well? For example, on the weeks we don't record, would you want an analysis or discussion of M.D.C. news, or short releases to let you know what's coming up? I'm pretty sure I can create a second page under this one to put that kind of stuff if that's the preferred method.

Here's the embedded episode, but feel free to download the MP3 file, as well.

Have a great day, and carry on, citizens.
